Three friends went to a hotel. The bill was Rs 75/-
Each One contributed Rs.25/-.
The Waiter took the bill to the cashier.
The cashier was happy & decided to give them a discount of Rs.5/- & asked the waiter to return them Rs.5/-.
Now the waiter was confused. How to distribute Rs 5 among 3 persons?
He kept Rs 2 in his pocket & gave one rupee to each one of the 3 persons.
So initially each one had contributed Rs.25. Now as they are given 1 rupee back, their contribution reduces to Rs 24.
They all contributed Rs 24 -- that is 24x3=72 & 2 rupees are in the waiter’s pocket.
The total becomes 74. But they had paid Rs 75.
Where is the remaining 1 rupee?

Answer: You are in fact supposed to subtract the waiter's Rs.2 and not add it to Rs.72. This is because it is a Rs.5 discount. That is why you subtract it.
Let me explain it to you. Initially the bill was Rs.75 for the three of them, but with the Rs.5 discount, the final bill is Rs.70.
Initial Bill: Rs.75
Final Bill: Rs.70
Discount: Rs.5- (Waiter: Rs. 2 and 3 men: Rs.3) which sums up to Rs.5.
Back to the puzzle: The men were supposed to leave losing only Rs.70, but in fact left losing Rs.72. Therefore, someone else has pocketed the Rs. 2, in this case was the waiter. That is why you should subtract Rs. 2 from (Rs.24 x 3) Rs.72 to make Rs. 70, instead of adding it. You have to find the sum of the discount, which has to sum up to Rs.5.
I hope this shed some light on this problem.

The problem is in adding 72 with 2. 72 represents the net amount they paid where as 2 represents the money the waiter has in his hand at the end.
October 15, 2020 at 2:45 PMIt doesn't make senese to add these 2 quantities. Why not add 72 with 70 (the money the cashier has now)? It doesn't make sense.
Try these:
Money before payment = 25x3 + 0 (waiter) + 0 (cashier) = 75
Money after payment = 1x3 + 2 (waiter) + 70 (cashier) = 75
u are dumb and stupid its not right!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAH dumb peopleee

July 14, 2024 at 10:33 AMhow many fingers do you have in boths hands you will say 10 but it can be 11 how let me explain take one hand's finger start to countdown from 10 ok it will be like 10,9,8,7,6( all five finger counted ) but failed to come in 5 there is 1 missing and other hand we have 5 finally we got 6+5= 11 so finally we realised that when we countdown one hand fingers in acsending way and other hands in decending way always be the difference of 1 i hope that you got my point
